It's official; DD-214s are NOW
Online.
The National Personnel Records
Center (NPRC) has provided the
following website for veterans to gain
access to their DD-214s  online:
http://vetrecs.archives.gov/
This may be particularly helpful when
a veteran needs a copy of his
DD-214 for employment purposes..
NPRC is working to make it easier
for veterans with computers and
Internet access to obtain copies of
documents from their military files.
Military veterans and the next of kin
of deceased former military
members may now use a new online
military personnel records system to
request documents.
Other individuals with a need for
documents must still complete the
Standard Form 180, which can be
downloaded from the online web site.
Because the requester will be asked
to supply all information essential for
NPRC to process the request, delays
that normally occur when NPRC has
to ask veterans for additional
information will be minimized.  The
new web-based application was
designed to provide better service on
these requests by eliminating the
records centers mailroom and
processing time.
Please pass this information on to
former military personnel you may
know and their dependents.

Cold War Certificate Program
In accordance with section 1084 of the Fiscal Year 1998 National
Defense Authorization Act, the Secretary of Defense approved

armed forces and qualified federal government civilian personnel
who faithfully and honorably served the United States anytime
during the Cold War era, which is defined as Sept. 2, 1945 to Dec.

Cliff,
Here is an article that broke Friday
morning regarding Agent Orange.
Would you please spread the news
to all, especially Larry and Butch?
THANKS,

Hello Cliff  ..........
First of all, let me thank-you for the great job you're doing with the '1st Wave BatCat' website!
The main reason for the email is to pass along some retirement info that a fellow worker passed on to me.  I figured  a few fellow BatCats are in
the same boat that I'm in ........ considering retirement in the near future.  Attached is the email that was sent to me; deals with a little extra
income in your Social Security check ...... I believe we could all use that!
Thanks again for your hard work.

DD FORM 214 -- SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT Please share this with anyone who had active duty service between January 1957 to December 31, 2001 and planning
for retirement. In a nutshell it boils down to this:
You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your Military service, for active duty any time from 1957 through 2001 (the program was done away with 1
January 2002). Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit credited at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments
upon your retirement. You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office and you must ask for this benefit to receive it!
Soc Sec website: http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm
This is something to put in your files for when you apply for Social Security down the road.. It is NOT just for retirees, BUT anyone who has served on active duty
between January 1957 to December 31, 2001.
FYI - this benefit is not automatic, you must ask for it! We've all been on active duty between 1957 and 2001 or know someone who has.
Passing on good information for all you military folks when you apply for social security. I know this may be too early for some of you to think about social security
but, keep living and you will get there...
